OWL-Space, a university wide online environment to support academic and research activities, includes course management, collaboration and personal virtual file storage capabilities. OWL-Space replaced WebCT, Rice’s previous commercial course-management package.
In addition to tools for instructional media management and online portfolios, OWL-Space also provides a place for online collaboration. This feature allows Rice researchers and instructors to share resources online with both on- and off-campus collaborators.
OWL- Space offers course-management tools such as grade books, quizzes and assignment drop boxes, as well as tools for discussion boards, online chats, RSS feeds and group e-mail. OWL-Space, an open-source collaborative project, will enable IT to provide integration in the future between OWL-Space and other online Rice services. Rice also will benefit from the variety of new tools being developed by the higher education community of open-source developers.
