Glossary Tool
The Glossary tool allows you to create an electronic glossary on your OWL-Space site. Members will be able to look through your glossary and see short and long descriptions of each term you decide to include.
On the main page of the Glossary tool is a table of all the terms in the glossary in alphabetical order. Ten items are displayed per page, and you can move forward and back through the pages using the Previous and Next buttons above the table, or jump to the first or last page with the First or Last button.
Next to each term in the table is a short description of that term. Clicking on the term will open a pop-up window with a long description of the term. Below each term is a Revise link, if you wish to change any of the details of that term, and a Remove link, if you decide to delete that term from the glossary.
There are four tabs at the top of the main Glossary page. The Add tab allows you to add a new term to the glossary. You can enter the term, a Short Description which is text only, and a Long Description which uses the OWL-Space text editor interface and can include pictures, links, flash animations, tables, and more. The short description is visible in the glossary table, and the long description is visible in a pop-up window when a member clicks on the term in the glossary. Use the Add Term button at the bottom of the page to add this term to the glossary when you are finished.
The Import tab allows you to upload a glossary file from your computer to your OWL-Space site and add all terms from the file to your Glossary. Glossary files are saved with the Export function described below. On the Import page, you can select the file to upload, and decide what to do when a term from the file being added already exists in your glossary (either keep the existing term or replace it with the term from the file). When you are ready to Import, press the Import button.
The Export tab allows you to save your glossary as a zip file on your computer. When you click on Export, the file will download through your browser's regular download interface. Inside the zip file is an xml file that describes your glossary. You can Import this file to another OWL-Space site as described above (either the zip file or the xml file).
Lastly, the Permissions tab allows you to set what types of members can delete items from the glossary, add items, edit items, or export the glossary to their computer.
