OWL-Space Site Home Page

The Home Page for an OWL-Space site can be accessed by clicking on the Home tab in the left-hand tool menu. It is also the default tool that is displayed when you first enter an OWL-Space site.

The Home Page contains mini-tools showing general information about the site, recent announcements for the site, recent items from the discussion boards for the site, recent messages from the site chat room, and a calendar showing events from the site's Schedule. Which tools have been added to your site determines which of these mini-tools are displayed on the home page.

The general information mini-tool, which defaults to the name "Worksite Information," can be customized by clicking on Options below the title. You can change the title, the height of the section, and the site description. You can also specify the URL of a web site to show in this area instead of the text description.

Recent Announcements shows recent items from the Announcements tool. You can customize how many and how recent of items are displayed by clicking on Options.

Recent Discussion Items shows recent items from the Discussion tool. You can customize how many and how recent of items are displayed by clicking on Options.

Recent Chat Messages shows recent chat from the site Chat Room tool. You can customize how much and how recent of chat is displayed by clicking on Options.

New for '07-'08

The Home page of OWL-Space sites now shows a calendar of events taken from that site's Schedule (if the Schedule tool has not been added to a site, then no calendar is shown). For more information about the calendar, please see the Course Site Home Page module.

The Calendar shows events from the Schedule tool in a weekly or monthly calendar format. The day in the calendar that is selected is bordered by a dashed line. Days which contain events are highlighted by colors that can be customized by clicking on Options. Clicking on the Today button selects the current day in the calendar. Clicking on the left and right arrows moves the calendar view forwards or backwards by one week or month as appropriate, but does not change the selected day.

Clicking on any day that contains events will select that day. The events for the selected day are displayed below the calendar. Clicking on an event name will show details about that event. Clicking full details will take you to the appropriate event page (which may be in a different OWL-Space site if you are using merged schedules; see the Schedule tool for more information), while clicking the back button will return you to the selected day's list of events.
