The OWL-Space Guide

News Tool

The News tool allows you to display news from an RSS feed on your OWL-Space site. RSS feeds are news items from other websites (often from television stations, newspapers, or blogging sites) that are maintained by those outside parties, but can be set to appear as headlines on your own website.

To add a new RSS feed to your OWL-Space site, go to the Site Info tool and click on Edit Tools at the top. Scroll down the list until you find the item called News, and check the box next to it. Then scroll to the bottom and press the Continue button. The next page will show a section where you can customize the new News Tool you are adding to your OWL-Space site. In the Title box, enter the name of the tool as you want it to appear in the left-hand menu bar of your site. In the URL box, enter the URL of the RSS feed you want to display in this News tool.

If you would like to add additional News tools at the same time, select the number of tools you would like to add from the More News Tools? box. Additional Title and URL boxes will appear on the page for you to enter the details of these Additional tools. You can continue adding more News tools as much as you would like. When you are finished and ready to add your News tools to your site, press the Continue button at the bottom of the page.

Your News tools will now appear in the left-hand menu bar under whatever Titles you gave them. Clicking on the title of a News tool will bring you to that tool's page. At the top is an Options link where you can change the Title and URL of this tool, as well as the title that appears at the top of the News tool page. Below the options link is the content from the RSS feed you entered.
