There are numerous new features and tools available in OWL-Space.
Portfolio: The Open Source Portfolio (OSP) is now bundled in OWL-Space as a suite of tools designed to work in concert for portfolio-based assessment. Using OSP, individuals can collect items, reflect, design portfolios, and publish them to designated audiences. Instructors and program administrators are able to provide structure and guidance to an individual's work that include step-by-step (sequential) wizards, matrices of goals/standards, and hierarchies to organize related work. Please visit http://www.osportfolio.org for more information on the Open Source Portfolio (OSP).
Group Awareness: Group awareness has been extended to three additional tools: Resources, Assignments, and Schedule. This means that anything added or uploaded to these sections can be sent to a group of your students instead of to the whole class. This allows a professor to upload files, assignments, or calendar entries that are only accessible to part of the class. The Announcements and Tests & Quizzes tools are also group aware.
How do I create a group?
- Select your course in the top menu bar
- Click on Site Info
- Click on Manage Groups on the top of the tool window
- Click New
- In the "Title" field, enter a title for your group (e.g., Project team 1). You may also add a text description.
- From the window on the left, select a site participant to add to the group, and then click Add to group. Repeat this step until you've added all the members you wish to the group. To select more than one member at a time, hold down the Ctrl key (in Windows) or the Cmd key (in Mac OS X), and select the members you wish to add.
- When you're finished, click Update.
Text Editor: You may also notice that some of the tools have a new text editor. This editor has a number of new features and formatting options, such as easier ability to add images, tables and smilies as well as additional features.
